Overview

The College of Global Engagement Model United Nations (MUN) Delegation 2026 is a faculty-led initiative for CGE undergraduate students interested in applying what they learn in their courses to a real academic activity.

Students prepare together and participate in a Model United Nations conference with students from other universities. Participation includes guided preparation, discussion, and collaboration on global issues, with faculty support throughout.

Model United Nations (often called Model UN or MUN) is an educational simulation used by universities to help students understand how international discussions and decision-making take place at the United Nations.

At a Model United Nations conference, students assume the role of country representatives and discuss real global issues. Discussions follow clear rules and procedures based on the United Nations' meeting structure. Students research assigned topics, explain their country’s position, listen to different perspectives, negotiate with others, and work together to draft shared outcomes.

Model United Nations is recognized by the United Nations as a learning activity that helps students better understand international cooperation and diplomacy. Official UN guidance on Model United Nations emphasizes structured discussion, negotiation, and consensus-building rather than competition.

Many Model United Nations conferences focus on issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals, such as peace and security, development, health, technology, and human rights. These topics reflect the kinds of challenges discussed within the United Nations system.

In a recent message to Model United Nations participants, UN Secretary-General António Guterres described Model United Nations as a way for students to learn how cooperation, evidence-based discussion, and understanding different perspectives contribute to addressing global challenges.

What Is Model United Nations?

“By taking part in a Model United Nations simulation, you are learning what it takes to build a better world.”

— António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations

How You Use What You Learn

University courses provide important foundations through reading, listening, and written assignments.

This initiative builds on those foundations by giving you opportunities to apply what you know while working with others on real issues.

Through the MUN process, you practice how to:

  • discuss complex topics with people who hold different views

  • explain your ideas clearly and respond to questions

  • work in a group to reach shared decisions

  • manage preparation, deadlines, and responsibility over time

These ways of working are not limited to one major or career path. They are commonly expected in many fields, including business, hospitality, marketing, education, and international settings.

Participation does not require you to already know what you want to do after graduation. Instead, it offers an environment to practice communicating, collaborating, and making decisions — experiences that extend and deepen what you learn in your courses.

Conferences

The CGE Model United Nations delegation will participate in JUEMUN 2026, a university-level Model United Nations conference held in Japan.

Conference focus:

  • UN Body: UN Women

  • Theme: Building a Gender-Inclusive Society

  • Dates: July 10–12, 2026

  • Location: Kobe City University of Foreign Studies

JUEMUN 2026 will bring together students from multiple universities for structured discussions, negotiations, and drafting activities using a Model United Nations format. At the time of writing, 11 universities are confirmed, with about 150 delegates expected. Further conference details are shared with selected students during preparation.
